Different types of bicycle pedals
Whether you enjoy cycling on your racing bike or simply ride your city bike to the supermarket, if your pedals need replacing, you'll always find a new set in our selection. Read on to see which pedals we have in stock. Want to replace your pedals yourself? Below you'll find a brief explanation of how to do it.
Best city bike pedals
There are several reasons to choose a new set. Perhaps the pedals have worn out over the years and need replacing. You might also want a more comfortable cycling experience and are looking for pedals with more grip, better reflectors, or perhaps a different shape. We offer various typesof platform pedals for your city bike from top brands like M-Wave and Simson. With these pedals, you're guaranteed the best quality.
Pedals children's bicycle
Our range includes pedals suitable for even the smallest bikes. It's important that your children can ride their bikes safely. That's why these pedals have a non-slip surface to prevent slippery children's shoes from sliding off the pedals. They also always feature amber reflectors for high visibility to other road users. Many children's bike pedals are lightweight and move smoothly, making them easy for children to get going. Furthermore, they're easy to install on a child's bike with a suitable key.
Clipless pedals
Most cyclists and mountain bikers swear by them: road bike pedals with a clipless system. With such a system, a plate is placed at the bottom of the cycling shoe that allows you to click your feet into the road bike pedals. With MTB pedals, you exert not only pushing force but also pulling force while cycling. This reduces power loss, allows you to accelerate more easily, and allows you to climb those peaks with less effort.
Most shoes with a clip system have a slightly protruding cleat. This makes walking more difficult when getting off your bike. Furthermore, walking with the clip system can damage the cleats, making clipping in more difficult. So be careful when walking with these special cycling shoes!
BMX pedals
While BMX pedals look a lot like standard city bike pedals, there's a difference between the two. Because you need more grip on the pedals while riding a BMX than on a regular city bike, the bike pedals must offer sufficient grip. Many city bike pedals already come with special anti-slip grip, but typical BMX and MTB pedals come with metal pins. Furthermore, a platform pedal is often wider than a regular bike pedal. Everything for a good grip on the pedals!
Replacing a bicycle pedal
Have your new bike pedals arrived, but you're not sure how to install them? We're happy to help. Fortunately, installing a new pair of pedals is a simple job, usually completed within 10 minutes. There are no complicated wiring or other connections involved, and it's a fairly straightforward process. All you need to install your bike pedals is a new set of pedals, a pedal wrench, an Allen key, and mounting grease.
One thing to remember when installing new bike pedals is that the threads for the right pedal don't turn in the same direction as those for the left pedal. Usually, the pedals indicate which pedal is for which side of the bike.
Release the pedals
After years of use and minimal lubrication, the pedals may become rock-solid. This often makes this part of the job the trickiest. Use the appropriate Allen wrench or pedal wrench for this. Be careful not to hold your knuckles directly over the chain. If the pedal suddenly releases, it can take a considerable amount of force, and you'll cut your hand on the chain. If the pedal doesn't release, spray some (penetrating) oil on it and let it soak in. If it works, you should be able to unscrew your pedals easily. If not, spray some more oil on and let it soak in overnight.
Installing bicycle pedals
Before installing the new pedals on the crankset, clean it thoroughly. Use an old, dry cloth for this. You can also use a degreaser . To ensure the new set is installed extra securely, lubricate the threads of the pedals and the inside of the threads in the crankarms with assembly paste.
Make sure you install the correct pedal on the correct side. You can easily do the initial tightening yourself by moving the crank arm. A bicycle pedal should be tightened counterclockwise. For the final turn, it's best to use an Allen key or pedal wrench. However, never overtighten new bicycle pedals. If the pedal doesn't slide easily into the crank arm, either the threads are still too dirty or you have the wrong pedal.
